Newcastle Coast #46

One piece of the 46 Views of the Mournes series.

The Mourne Mountains meet the Irish Sea in a landscape that changes with the weather, tide & light. This painting is inspired by the coastal road outside Newcastle, where mountain, sea and sky sit side by side.

Built using layers of blue ink, plaster and gesso on a lightly carved wooden panel, the piece leans into texture & colour. The carved surface catches the light and reflects the rugged character of the coastline, while the simple composition captures the calmness of the view. The work continues from a series set from my Southern Japan trip to Kagoshima 2025 - two large mountains on two different islands.
